To love life

To love life.
To flirt with shadows
Along the precipice
And tongue grief's ribbed
Blade, to burn beneath
The flare of sun and
And wake in midnight's
Whips,
To scar, to cry, and
To linger despite it all,
Drenched in river water
Watching herons' beaks,
Singing the song
Of trees,
To love life
Is to love blemished.
